GOVERNMENT HOUSE,

HONGKONG. 18th September, 1923.

My Lord Duke,

Gov

I have the honour to confirm my telegram of the

12th September, 1923, informing Your Grace of the death of Warder ussey G. B. Craigie as a result of injuries received by falling from

the bedroom verandah of his quarters.

It is understood that Warder Craigie was a poor

sleeper and during the hot weather was in the habit of going out on the verandah in the middle of the night. It is thought that possibly he was leaning over the verandah railing and fell asleep in which case it would be easy for him to overbalance and be unable to recover himself. The accident took place about 2.15 a.m. in the morning and Warder Craigie died in the Government Civil Hospital the same day.

The deceased was a steady officer and had proved himself most useful. He was in charge of the printing shop in the Gaol and his loss will be felt. I should be glad if an expression of my sympathy could be conveyed to his mother, Mrs. D. Craigie, 33, Leff Road, Lochee, Dundee.

I have the honour to be,

My Lord Duke,

Your Grace's most obedient

humble servant,

7.2. Stubbs

Governor, &c.

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE

THE DUKE OF DEVONSHIRE, K.G.,
